This project is a short live-action title sequence inspired by The Menu, created as a focused study in the core pillars of cinematography: composition, camera & lensing, and lighting. Rather than retelling the film’s narrative, the sequence captures its tone and themes through environment, texture, and ritual.
Filmed inside an old bar/restaurant, the sequence centers on the preparation of an Old Fashioned—using close-up details, deliberate pacing, and restrained camera movement to evoke control, precision, and quiet tension. The bar itself becomes a character, emphasizing surfaces, materials, and atmosphere over people or dialogue.
The title typography is integrated directly into the environment, subtly revealing itself across the bar’s surface during a slow pan out. This approach blends practical cinematography with minimal post-production to ground the title in the physical space rather than treating it as a graphic overlay.
Overall, the piece aims to feel elegant, unsettling, and intentional, reflecting The Menu’s balance of luxury and menace while demonstrating a disciplined, cinematic approach to visual storytelling in a concise short format.
