This project is a conceptual promotional video for the MTV Video Music Awards, designed to celebrate music’s biggest night through bold visuals, high-energy motion, and artist-driven storytelling. The piece highlights multiple performers by integrating stylized motion graphics and hand-drawn illustrations directly into existing music video footage, creating a cohesive visual language that feels playful, expressive, and rooted in music culture. Each segment uses in-scene graphics that interact with the environment and performers, inspired by the graphic-forward style of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and contemporary music video treatments.
The purpose of this project was to push my skills beyond traditional motion graphics and focus on VFX and compositing within live action, specifically learning how to place graphics convincingly inside filmed spaces rather than on top of them. I aimed to create a fast-paced, visually exciting piece that feels broadcast-ready while still leaving room for experimental, illustrative moments.
Key skills I focused on learning and strengthening include 3D camera tracking, rotoscoping with Roto Brush, in-scene typography and illustration integration, face tracking and stylized facial effects, and layered compositing in After Effects. I also explored frame-by-frame style animation, depth-based animation using nulls and 3D cameras, and techniques for blending abstract motion elements into live-action footage. This project reflects my interest in music-driven motion design and my growing focus on combining illustration, VFX, and storytelling in a polished, professional context.
